💊 Working in a Pharmacist role - Who’s eligible?
Whether you’re currently working in a pharmacy or have retired from a community or NHS pharmacy role, here’s how to confirm your eligibility for a Blue Light Card 👇
We only need to see documentation that proves your current employment to check that you are eligible. When you upload your documentation, we recommend that you redact all information other than your name, employer and date.
🧾 Currently working in a pharmacy role
To apply, upload a document that matches the name on your Blue Light Card account.
✅ Accepted proof of eligibility:
You can upload any one of the following:
A work ID card showing:
• Your full name
• Your Pharmacy or NHS affiliationA recent payslip showing:
• Your full name
• A Pharmacy or NHS employer
• A date within the last 3 monthsA valid General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration number
👉 Just pop it into the ‘Job Title’ field when signing up
🏪 Work for Boots or Superdrug?
You can upload:
A contract from Boots or Superdrug confirming your pharmacy role
plusA valid work ID card or recent payslip
⚠️ Common reasons documents may be declined:
The name on your document doesn’t match your Blue Light Card account
The payslip is more than 3 months old
We couldn’t confirm your pharmacy affiliation from the document

🏪 Retired Community Pharmacy Staff
To apply, upload:
📄 A pension document from any provider
📝 Proof of at least 4 years’ relevant employment
✅ What counts as proof of employment?
You can upload:
Two documents dated at least 4 years apart (e.g. P60s or payslips)
An employment or leaver letter with your start and end dates
A professional registration record with your work history or cease date
🏥 Retired NHS Pharmacy Staff
The easiest way to apply is to upload:
📄 An NHS Pension P60 or statement
📄 Or an SPPA pension letter
We only need to see documentation that proves your retired status/former employment to check that you are eligible. When you upload your documentation, we recommend that you redact all information other than your name, pension provider, and if you need to provide supporting evidence of former employment you redact all information other than your name, employer and date.
Can’t find those?
No worries, you can still apply by uploading:
📄 A pension document from any provider
📝 And proof of 4+ years’ relevant employment, such as:
Two documents dated at least 4 years apart
An employment or leaver letter
A professional registration record
