🔒 How to redact sensitive information from your upload

When you're uploading ID, letters, or documents to verify your account, you only need to show us your name, organisation, and any relevant dates. If it's not something we ask for, it's best to cover the rest of the information. Here are some of the ways you can achieve this before you upload.

Option 1: Use your phone's built-in tools

iPhone - Markup Tool
  1. Open the Photos app and find the image you want to upload
  2. Tap Edit at the top right
  3. Tap the Markup icon (a pen in a circle)
  4. Tap the plus icon and select Shapes to add a solid rectangle
  5. Drag the rectangle over any information you want to hide (address, signature, account numbers, dates you don't need, anything else you're not comfortable sharing)
  6. Make sure the opacity is set to 100% so nothing shows through
  7. Tap Done and save

Android - Google Photos
  1. Open Google Photos and select the image you want to upload
  2. Tap Edit at the bottom
  3. Tap Markup
  4. Tap Redact to use the blur tool, or Tap Pen if you want to draw over the information
  5. Drag over the areas you want to hide - if using Redact, you can choose Blur, Mosaic, or Mosaic Light
  6. Tap the checkmark to save your changes

Option 2: Crop the image

If you have a full page letter or document, just photograph or crop the relevant section instead of uploading the whole thing. This keeps it simple and removes the need to redact anything.

 

Option 3: The low-tech way

You can also physically cover sensitive information with pieces of paper or card, then take a photo of the document. Make sure the covered areas are completely opaque so nothing shows through when you photograph it.

 

Before you upload

Take a close look at your redacted image at full size - check that all the information you wanted to cover is actually hidden. Sometimes a small gap or edge can still show text, so it's worth a quick check before you send it our way.
