👁️‍🗨️ Optometry & Audiology - How to confirm your eligibility

To be eligible under this category, you must be in paid employment or retired within an optician or audiology practice. Sign Up Here!

 We only need to see documentation that proves your current employment to check that you are eligible.  When you upload your documentation, we recommend that you redact all information other than your name, employer and date.

📝 What to upload when you apply

Please upload one of the following:

  • A recent payslip showing you work in an optician or audiology practice

  • A work ID card that includes your name and confirms your role in this setting

  • Your GOC (General Optical Council) or HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) registration number

👉 If you're using your GOC or HCPC number, just pop it into the ‘Job Title’ field when signing up

⚠️ Common reasons an ID might be declined:

  • The name on your document doesn’t match your Blue Light Card account

  • We couldn’t confirm your employment in an optician or audiology setting

  • Your GOC or HCPC number couldn’t be verified

👓 Retired Optometry Staff

You're eligible for a Blue Light Card too! To apply, upload:

📄 A pension document from any provider
📝 Proof of at least 4 years’ relevant employment

 We only need to see documentation that proves your retired status/former employment to check that you are eligible.  When you upload your documentation, we recommend that you redact all information other than your name, pension provider, and if you need to provide supporting evidence of former employment you redact all information other than your name, employer and date.

✅ What can I use as proof of employment?

You can upload:

  1. Two documents dated at least 4 years apart (like P60s or payslips)

  2. An employment or leaver letter showing your start and end dates

  3. A professional registration record with your work history or cease date
